BARBARESCO 'RABAJÀ' CASTELLO DI VERDUNO 2017 DESCRIPTION

Barbaresco Riserva "Rabajà" Castello di Verduno is an elegant red wine that belongs to that category of wines that can be defined as identity. Old traditions for ageing the wine in wooden barrels, long macerations, rest and time. Distinctive and unique traits declined differently in each bottle.

"Rabajà" is a Cru from the commune of Barbaresco, within the equally well-known Asili hill, austere but capable of spreading harmony to the wines made from the area's grapes. The old Nebbiolo vines are rooted at an altitude of 300 meters on the traditional soil composed of white soil with a high limestone and clay content, called "Marna di Sant'Agata." The exposure of the vineyard is southwest.

Work in the winery involves crushing and destemming the best grapes carefully selected in the vineyard during the harvest. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation with adjoining maceration on the skins for about 40 days, with the traditional breaking of the cap, prolonging the extraction of the colouring and aromatic components present on the skins to the maximum, even after the end of the fermentation process. The wine then rests for 20 months inside large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by 2 months of rest in steel, and then completes the elevation period in the bottle, where it spends an additional 26 months.

Barbaresco Riserva "Rabajà" has an intense garnet red color. The nose is beautifully expressive, and notes of ripe and crisp red fruits chase after fine balsamic sensations of aromatic wood, thanks to the oxygenation in the large barrels. It then continues on wild herbaceous tones of wilted rose and oriental spices. The palate is structured, enveloping, and elegant, with noble tannins and a splendid long finish. It can only improve with time. Territoriality is a starting point for wine; when one is then fortunate enough to be in areas particularly suited to it and oozing with history, the vine becomes a creator of works of art. Sitting in front of the goblet, one can admire the amphitheatre where the most beautiful show takes place: Rabaja!
