'BRUMA D'AUTUNNO' I CARPINI 2014 DESCRIPTION

Piedmont Winery I Carpini presents 'Bruma d'Autunno,' a full-bodied and round red wine capable of revealing the typical traits of Barbera. In the Colli Tortonesi area, Maddalena and Paolo Ghislandi have been offering pure and uncontaminated expressions of the terroir since 1998. These include 'Bruma d'Autunno,' a Barbera made from a centuries-old vineyard named "Riccardo" in honour of the couple's son. Instead, the label's name was chosen because of the wine's autumnal character, capable of transporting the senses to "a walk in the woods beside the rows, in autumn."

'Bruma d'Autunno' I Carpini came from only Barbera grapes from a vineyard planted in 1926 and managed according to organic farming principles. The rows are rooted on clay-limestone soils, 330-340 meters above sea level, with eastern and southeastern exposure. After manual harvesting and careful sorting, the grapes are fermented by indigenous yeasts alone with about 20 days of maceration on the skins. The wine rests initially for 12 months in steel tanks on the fine lees and then for 36 months in medium-toasted 500-litre French oak barrels. This is followed by an impressive 72 months of bottle ageing before release. Throughout the winemaking process, the mass undergoes no filtration.

To the eye, Piedmont's Barbera I Carpini 'Bruma d'Autunno' reveals a deep ruby-red guise. The aromas, decisive and articulate, range from hints of small red fruits and cocoa to woody and smoky perceptions. Full, complex and elegant on the palate, with marked softness and fine tannins that anticipate a very persistent finish. An interpretation of exemplary territorial and varietal typicality that calls for rich and structured pairings.
