CHATEAUNEUF DU PAPE ROUGE GUIGAL 2017 DESCRIPTION

Guigal's Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge is an elegant, intense and complex wine that originates in the beautiful southern Rhône Valley area, just outside the famous city of Avignon. In keeping with ancient custom, it is made from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mouvedre and other red grape varieties historically grown in the region. The long ageing in wood gives a wine of great harmony of taste, balanced, enveloping and very persistent.

A famous winery in the Rhone Valley produces Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge wine. Guigal, in addition to owning vineyards in some prestigious parcels in the Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Ermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint-Joseph, also cultivates vineyards in Chateauneuf du Pape. In this area of the lower Rhône, he produces one of the richest French wines in terms of history and tradition. The vines have an average age of over 50 years and are cultivated on the famous uplands of "galets roulés" of alluvial origin. Soils consisting of an expanse of pebbles smoothed by the ancient course of the Rhone, which insist on a substrate of red clays and sands. A unique terroir of extraordinary scenic beauty. Fermentations take place separately for each grape variety, and after the creation of the blend, it matures for 36 months in large oak barrels.

Guigal's Chateauneuf du Pape red is a wine made following the oldest customs of the area, which involve a skilful blending of many complementary grape varieties and the use of large barrels. The wine has a deep, intense red colour with garnet reflections. On the nose, it expresses aromas of blueberry, currant, blackberry and hints of Mediterranean herbs. The taste is complex and harmonious, warm and rich, with soft tannins, a lingering finish and great taste balance.
