CHENIN BLANC SAUMUR 'L'INSOLITE' DOMAINE DES ROCHES NEUVES 2022 DESCRIPTION

The Chenin Blanc Saumur "L'Insolite" from Domaine des Roches Neuves is a white that manages to combine finesse and personality in a stunning wine. When we talk about Chenin Blanc, we are undoubtedly talking about one of the most multifaceted and multifaceted grape varieties in the world, capable of giving birth to memorable liquids of every type. Chenin is inextricably linked to its region of vocation, namely the Loire, precisely where the Domaine des Roches Neuves is located. Here near Saumur, famous for also giving birth to some of the region's greatest reds, Thierry Germain has become a true legend, thanks to original interpretations but of incredible complexity and territorial adherence. The wines, despite their well-deserved fame, still travel at affordable prices, so stocking up is highly recommended.

The white "L'Insolite" is made with pure Chenin grapes from vineyards grown near Saumur and resting on clay-limestone soils. Organic and biodynamic practices are used in the vineyard, so all chemical or synthetic substances are banned. The vitality of the plant and soil are the prelude to equally conscientious work in the cellar, which involves spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and ageing for 9 months on fine lees in large wooden barrels.

The Saumur wine "L'insolite" presents itself in the glass with bright straw-coloured garb. It has the makings of a champion, right from the first olfaction, where the liquid declines notes of cedar, chamomile, chalk and toasted almond in a way that is anything but didactic or rhetorical. The sip is truly splendid, pulpy and taut at the same time, sprinkled with a truly refreshing vein of acidity and salt. A great French white with value for money that definitely leans toward the former.
