INZOLIA 'DIETRO LE CASE' CANTINE BARBERA 2022 DESCRIPTION

Inzolia 'Dietro le Case' is a white wine with a maritime and fragrant character produced in Menfi, in the province of Agrigento. It is claimed that this grape variety is the most ancient Sicilian native and that it subsequently spread to other Italian regions through transport by Greek merchant ships, particularly southern Tuscany, Elba Island and Giglio, where it is known as Ansonica. In detail, Marilena Barbera's Inzolia is a splendid interpretation of this grape variety that, by encapsulating saline and iodine aromatic characters in the bottle, revokes the crystalline sea and its breeze with just a swirl in the glass.

The white 'Dietro le Case' Inzolia is made from the grapes produced by the vineyard of the same name, extending over just under a hectare from vines planted more than 40 years ago by Marilena's father. Now perfectly integrated with the surrounding environment, the Inzolia vines exuberantly express the personality and wine-growing culture of the Menfi area. The soil, predominantly calcareous and pebbly, gives the wine a delicate but intense minerality and deep aromatic breadth. The hand-picked grapes undergo cold maceration and soft pressing before proceeding with spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. Maturation of 5 months in steel containers follows, with final ageing of at least 3 months in the bottle.

Cantine Barbera's Inzolia "Dietro le Case" faithfully represents the terroir of Menfi with organoleptic characteristics that leave no doubt: the marked and pleasant salinity due to the vineyard's proximity to the sea (less than one kilometre) harmoniously binds to the perfumes of broom and chamomile flowers, with fruity garnishes of ripe apple and balsamic notes of Mediterranean scrub. The taste profile is intriguing thanks to the pleasant softness, sweetly balanced with refreshing mineral hints.
