LESSONA 'OMAGGIO A QUINTINO SELLA' TENUTE SELLA 2012 DESCRIPTION

Tenute Sella's Lessona "Homage to Quintino Sella" is the winery's flagship wine. A tribute to one of the prominent members of the family that owns the estate itself: Quintino Sella, one of the proponents of the Unification of Italy. Only the vintages deemed best are elevated to reserve status, with a view to uncompromising excellence.

The Nebbiolo and Vespolina vines rise in Upper Piedmont, in the municipality of Lessona, and have an age average of 50 years. The vineyards are rooted at an altitude of 330 meters above sea level and exposed to the southwest on soils consisting of marine sands. Grapes are sorted first in the vineyard, during harvest, and then in the winery on a sorting mat. After destemming, alcoholic fermentation is started in stainless steel tanks with pumping over and delestage, allowing the must to remain in contact with the skins for 26 days. Malolactic fermentation occurs in large wooden barrels naturally in the spring as temperatures rise. Ageing continues within the same large Slavonian oak barrels for a period of 48 months.

Lessona's "Homage to Quintino Sella" tints the glass elegantly with a beautiful garnet red hue. The nose opens initially on mineral scents, then continues intensely on sensations of small red berries from the undergrowth, liquorice roots, and vegetable and floral notes, with spicy references that almost pinch the nose. On the palate, the sip is aristocratic, energetic, and enveloping, with silky tannins a juicy and balsamic finish. A wine that seals indelible memories!
