MARSALA VERGINE 'BAGLIO' FLORIO 2004 - 50CL DESCRIPTION

Marsala Vergine's "Baglio di Florio is a wonderful expression of one of the traditional products of the Sicilian region. The Florio family has been involved in the production of Marsala since 1832 when Vincenzo Florio bought some land bordering on that of Woodhouse, inventor of this fortified wine. Here Vincenzo had a tufa stone Baglio built, a symbol of the business that has survived the passage of time. The business has withstood two world wars and various vicissitudes, coming in 1998 to be purchased by the Duca di Salaparuta Group, the island's first private group whose main objective is to enhance the territorial potential and that of its traditional fruits.

The vineyards of Marsala Vergine "Baglio di Florio lay their roots in the Contrade di Birgi and Spagnola, in the coastal strip north of Marsala: they, in fact, directly overlook the beaches, feeling the influence of the sea and its salinity. The pure Grillo grapes grow on arid, low-fertile soils with a massive presence of silicon and limestone for products with a unique and structured character. The climate is Mediterranean, with the presence of sea breezes that contribute to mild, rainy winters and hot, torrid summers due to hot winds from Africa. Harvesting is conducted manually and takes place in the last week of September; in the winery, the grapes are gently pressed to pass all the substances present on the skins into the must. Alcoholic fermentation occurs, and then the tanning takes place with the addition of only wine distillate as per tradition. It is aged 10 years in fine oak barrels.

To the eye, Marsala Vergine "Baglio di Florio has an ancient golden yellow colour with nuances tending toward topaz. The refined bouquet of aromas is intense and rich with spicy hints of vanilla, wildflower honey and toasted hazelnut; in the mouth, it is dry, enveloping and elegant with a harmonious explosion of sweet notes that delight the palate calyx after calyx. Perfect paired with salmon and smoked swordfish appetizers, also suitable with extra dark chocolate and medium-aged blue cheeses. Excellent product to reserve for pleasant and carefree endings of meals in the company of lifelong friends to share a sweet pampering, produced in a conscious and responsible way.
