The Merlot 1.618 is created with French clones of Merlot growing near Cortona, on a particularly soil, suited to viticulture thanks to its composition rich of clayey, at an altitude of about 310 mt. Leuta, the winery that produces it, was founded in 2003 by a group of two former "white collar", employees of the financial world, who decide to pursue their dream and live in closer contact with nature of the land of their ancestors. The 1.618 is named as the famous golden section, a report created in the past to determine the proportions between measures in the visual arts and mathematics. The desire of a balanced relationship between the land of origin of the two young founders of the winery Leuta is expressed in a sublime way in the wines they produce. Despite Leuta is not known how other wineries in the nearby Montepulciano, it produces delicious Shyraz, cabernet franc and merlot, as evidenced by the wine 1,681, who won the gold medal at the Merano Wine Festival. The merlot 1,681 seems to really respect the balance of the golden ratio with its balanced structure, and its stately elegance, thanks to the skillful workmanship, with the aging of one year, in French oak barrels with different characteristics, of Merlot grapes grown in one of the most incredible terroir of Italy.
