The Fattoria Varramista winery is located in Montopoli in Val d'Arno, in the Tuscan countryside between San Miniato and Pontedera. Its origins are very old and date back to the beginning of the 15th century. The land was donated by the Republic of Florence to Gino di Neri Capponi as a reward for leading the Florentine troops to victory in battle against their historic rival Pisa. The Villa Varramista was built at the time to defend the territory against the Pisan enemy. Over the centuries, the estate has always been a point of reference for the aristocratic and industrial elite of the area. In the 1950s, the estate was the scene of the marriage between Antonella Bechi Piaggio and Umberto Agnelli, and in the 1990s it became the residence of Giovanni Alberto Agnelli, who also took charge of the layout and conversion of the vineyards, with the introduction of Syrah, which has since become the estate's signature grape variety.

The Varramista vineyards have always been an important part of the estate and still play a prestigious role today. The tradition of vine cultivation has been handed down over the centuries and has never ceased to be the real pride of the estate. Sangiovese has always been present in these lands and remains the most important and identifiable vine in the area. However, Syrah has settled in very well and offers interesting versions, as do other French varieties such as Grenache, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines of the estate are distinguished by a particular international vocation, which goes beyond the typical connotation linked to the indigenous Sangiovese grape to open up to a broader horizon of taste.

The area of the Verramista winery has always proved to be very suitable for quality viticulture: the sunny hillside exposures, the mild climate and the soils particularly suited to red grapes have always made it possible to cultivate excellent grapes. The area of the estate reserved for viticulture has always been limited, favouring quality over quantity. The vineyards are looked after with care and passion, and the harvests are carried out with manual selection of the best bunches, so that only healthy and perfectly ripe grapes are brought to the winery. Each grape variety is vinified separately and only the best barriques are selected for ageing. The end result is a range of fine wines that appeal to a public of enthusiasts and connoisseurs.
