RIESLING 'CALCAIRE' ZIND HUMBRECHT 2020 DESCRIPTION

Zind Humbrecht's "Calcaire" Riesling is the essence, the distinctive imprint of the soil where Domaine Zind Humbrecht is located in Alsace. It presents the traits of finesse and elegance that make it a noble white characterized by a peculiar savoriness. Indeed, this is the very soul of the Alsatian terroir, from which wines identified as 'mineral' come. The Zind Humbrecht winery focuses its daily work in the vineyard on enhancing the natural environment through a biodynamic cultivation method. Mineral expression is enhanced in the glass, finely sketched by notes reminiscent of flint, silica and saline sensation.

"Calcaire" Riesling by Zind Humbrecht comes from 100% Rhine Riesling variety grapes. They are harvested from seven vineyards that were planted between the 1960s and 1970s, thus enriching the complexity given by the over 40 years of age of the vines. These plots are located near the municipality of Gueberschwihr and are defined by limestone soils with good marl endowment. The delayed ripening of the grapes allows them to be harvested at a degree of acidity that will bring a lively and very pleasant freshness to the final wine, a necessary prerequisite for good ageing over the years, inside the bottle. Alcoholic fermentation occurs through the action of indigenous yeasts, on which the wine stays for about 12 months.

Zind Humbrecht Riesling's "Calcaire" presents itself to the eye with a straw-yellow colour endowed with excellent brightness and lustre. The bouquet is reminiscent of citrus and white fruit, set against a background of dried herbs and hay, with hints of flint and limestone. The palate is fresh and distinctly savoury, well managed in fine balance with the full body and rich in personality. Very good to drink now and very interesting to taste again in a few years.
