Savanna is a French style rum agricole produced  in the volcanic Reunion Island since 1870, in the Indian Ocean, east of Magadascar. The island, a French protectorate with a wild and exuberant nature, it is a large producer of sugar. The most cultivated sugar cane is the R570 and it is supplied to Savanna from the adjacent sugar factory Bois Rouge.

Savanna is one of the few distilleries in the world that produces rum from both raw materials, cane juice and molasses, having in its range "Traditionel" rums, "Single Cask" rums, "Full Proof" rums, but also wonderful "Grand Arome" rums . The latter type is now almost impossible to find in the Caribbean and it is a rum from molasses produced with long and peculiar fermentations. For instance, his Single Cask N° 401 Grand Arome 8 years has very intense and unique flavors, perfect to enjoy smooth, but also for preparing special cocktails.

As regards the aging of the rum, the great master distiller of Savanna, Laurent Broc, personally designed and produced a network of conduits and valves that connect all the barrels of the youngest rum, in order to stir the distilled within the first 18 months and ensure a better balance and ventilation. The distillery has about a thousand barrels, all of French origin, and dozens of ex-Cognac, ex-Porto, ex-Madeira, ex-Sherry, ex-Muscatel, ex-Calvados  barrels, using them for its high quality cask-finished, creating dozens of special combinations that will become then limited editions, usually full proof. Savanna is a great distillery of the southern hemisphere, and its refined and varied products should not really escape from the rum lovers of all styles.
