SYLVANER NOSSING 2022 DESCRIPTION

Sylvaner from South Tyrolean winemaker Manni Nossing represents an expression with a fresh, sharp soul produced in the Eisack Valley following a sustainable winemaking approach. The small winery that Manni Nossing runs are located in Brixen, a few kilometres from the Austrian border, in an area characterized by a typically cool Alpine climate. A descendant of a farming family, Manni made the decision in 1999 to start bottling wine under his own label rather than selling it to the local cooperative, also replacing the estate's orchards with vineyards. Today there are just over 5 hectares under cultivation, devoted mainly to traditional South Tyrolean white grape varieties, including Sylvaner, Kerner and Muller-Thurgau.

Manni Nossing Sylvaner consists of only grapes of the white berry variety of the same name grown on sandy, granitic soils of moraine origin. The vines are more than 30 years old and are located between 660 and 700 meters above sea level. Manual harvesting is followed by destemming and soft pressing of the grapes, with the must left to decant naturally for 24 to 48 hours. The ensuing alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the same type of wine containers in which the mass remains to mature for about 8 months on the fine lees before bottling.

On visual inspection, Manni Nossing's Sudtirol Sylvaner shows a straw-yellow hue with golden-green highlights. On the nose, fruity, floral and vegetal scents emerge, declining into sensations of wildflowers, officinal herbs, citrus and rennet apple. Full and rich on the palate, at the same time decidedly fresh and taut, endowed with excellent structure and durable mineral persistence.
