TORRETTE SUPERIORE OTTIN 2021 DESCRIPTION

Torrette Superiore from the Ottin estate represents a Valle d'Aosta expression of precious freshness and dynamism, also endowed with a slightly and pleasantly rustic character. Torrette Superiore is a sub-denomination of the Aosta Valley DOC and is the most widely planted wine in the region, traditionally made from a solid base of at least 70 percent of the native Petit Rouge grape variety, belonging to the vast Oriou family. The origins of Torrette are to be found in the wine-growing area of the same name located within the municipality of Saint-Pierre, west of Aosta. This Ottin interpretation was first released in the 2007 vintage.

Ottin Torrette Superiore comes from a blend of Petit Rouge (80%), Cornalin (10%), Fumin (5%) and other native red grapes such as Neiret, Mayolet, Bonda and Vuillermin. The vines, planted partly in 1997 and partly in 2000, are grown on sandy soils of morainic origin between 650 and 700 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested manually in crates and then immediately chilled in cold storage, and then undergo a light pre-fermentation maceration that precedes alcoholic fermentation operated exclusively by indigenous yeasts. Once malolactic fermentation has also occurred, the mass is transferred to 20-hectoliter Austrian oak barrels for ageing for 12 months.

Ottin Torrette Superiore is ruby red in colour, tending toward garnet. On the nose, there are woody scents of wild red fruits, fresh moss and pine needles, associated with complex perceptions of leather and spices such as nutmeg and cardamom. The intense, soft, and fine palate has juicy freshness and velvety tannic texture.
