The Cantine di Marzo winery is one of the oldest producers in Italy and narrates the story of a family with strong ties to the Irpinian territory. Its origins date back to 1647, when Scipione di Marzo, founder of the family, left his home town of San Paolo Belsito, near Nola, to escape the plague and moved to Tufo. According to legend, he planted some Greco del Vesuvio vines here that he had brought with him, leading to the birth of the famous Greco di Tufo for the first time. In 2009 Cantine di Marzo passed into the hands of the di Somma family, who are direct descendants of the di Marzo family. Filippo di Somma embarked on an ambitious development programme for the winery to ensure that his wines would be of a quality that reflected the tradition of centuries. His son Ferrante has used his studies and international experience in the world of wine to modernise the company's structure in a continuous quest for excellence.

Cantine di Marzo's vineyards extend over 23 hectares in the commune of Tufo, particularly in the districts of San Paolo and Santa Lucia, and in the commune of Santa Paolina, at an altitude ranging from 250 to 500 metres above sea level. The Greco, Fiano and Aglianico vines are trained on the espalier system and are rooted in predominantly clayey-calcareous soil, rich in sulphur and with a southwest exposure. This soil composition and the particular climatic conditions provide the wines of Cantine di Marzo with a wonderful aromatic complexity.

The cellar is an integral part of the original boundary walls of the village of Tufo and consists of a series of caves and tunnels dug into the rock to maintain a constant temperature all year round. The structure rises over a height difference of more than 20 metres, which enables gravity to be used for vinification processes, avoiding the use of pumps and other machinery that could stress the musts and wine. State-of-the-art equipment and the advice of renowned enologists make it possible to obtain labels with a personality that is representative of the territory. Cantine di Marzo still continues to cultivate the Greco vines in its nursery, preserving a genetic heritage that has remained virtually unchanged since its origins. The winery has therefore been able to safeguard historical tradition without sacrificing modern technology, resulting in wines of unique quality.
