Enzo Mecella's main calling is fundamentally that of a selector. In fact, he considers himself to be a ''negociant eleveur'', which in French indicates the winegrower who looks after his vineyards from the roots to the bottles, while trying to select the best quality grapes with excellent results from the endless vineyards on the hills of the Marche region. This winery was established in the city of Fabriano by Enzo's father, Marsilio, over 50 years ago in the gentle hills of the Umbria-Marche Apennines. It was Marsilio himself who started this production, focusing always on great quality and occasionally avoiding commercial guidelines in favour of continuous research. In 1977 his son Enzo took over the reins of the business, bringing his own distinctive personality to introduce major changes, including the pioneering use of barriques for ageing. Nowadays, Michele is following in his father's footsteps, bringing a breath of fresh air into the family business.

Enzo Mecella's winery enjoys the typical climate of the Marche hinterland, which is mainly continental, and characterised by fairly harsh winters and hot summers with rather marked night-time temperature variations. The Giano stream, which flows through these territories, increases humidity, rendering the climate particularly suitable for vine cultivation. Harvesting is done manually, with a selection of grapes that have a high sugar content. Alcoholic fermentation is triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts, which maintain the strong expressiveness of the land of origin, with all its aromas and nuances. In addition, the vines used are exclusively indigenous, such as the Verdicchio, Lacrima di Morro d'Alba and Montepulciano.

The great territorial expressiveness and the continuous quest for perfection and distinction make Enzo Mecella's winery a source of great pride for the Marche region. His wines are characterised by a rather persistent sugar content and a good warmth that enhances the varietal aromas, maintaining them over time. The use of grapes that are cultivated with a low environmental impact and that are over 50 years old to produce "Sainale", provides a rather broad and full-bodied taste profile, with a distinctive warmth and particularly clear hints of exotic fruit. The "Pagliano" stands out for its almondy undertones which are accompanied by a pleasant savouriness that makes it particularly pleasant to drink. It is now up to Michele to reveal what these smooth Apennine lands can offer us.
