Cannonau di Sardegna 'Ghirada Loreto' Francesco Cadinu 2022

Cannonau di Sardegna 'Ghirada Loreto' Francesco Cadinu 2022

Francesco Cadinu

The 'Ghirada Loreto' of the Francesco Cadinu winery is a warm and intense pure Cannonau from Sardinia, made by ageing the grapes from the vineyard of the same name in chestnutwood barrels. CANNONAU DI SARDEGNA 'GHIRADA LORETO' FRANCESCO CADINU 2022 DESCRIPTION

The 'Ghirada Loreto' Cannonau di Sardegna by Francesco Cadinu represents a full and authentic expression of the Mamoiada territory, crafted by the Francesco Cadinu winery. The Cadinu family has been taking care of their vineyards for over 100 years, always in line with the established customs of the area. The official birth of the winery, however, dates back to 2015, when Francesco and his wife Simonetta decided to elevate the family's winemaking tradition by offering the world the truest expression of their vineyards, particularly their "Ghiradas," a Sardinian term akin to the French concept of cru. In particular, the 'Ghirada Loreto' is among the latest releases from the estate, first released in 2024 with the 2022 vintage.

'Ghirada Loreto' Francesco Cadinu Cannonau di Sardegna originates from only Cannonau grapes from a single plot planted back in 1922. The vines, trained in the bush vine style according to the principles of organic farming, are rooted in clayey soils at an altitude of over 600 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested strictly by hand and then transferred to the winery for traditional red winemaking with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats and prolonged maceration on the skins. The subsequent aging phase takes place in old large chestnut wood barrels and lasts for a period of 12 months until the final bottling.

Francesco Cadinu's Cannonau di Sardegna 'Ghirada Loreto' has an intense ruby red color. The glass reveals engaging perceptions of currant, blackberry, plum, and eucalyptus, enhanced by hints of Mediterranean scrubland and sandalwood. The taste development is intense, warm, and soft, well supported by a pleasant fresh-savory component, with integrated tannins and a lingering, enveloping finish of very long persistence.
