Etna Bianco 'Anthemis' Monteleone is a Carricante-based white wine aged for 12 months in French oak tonneaux on fine lees. The nose expresses notes of citrus, white flowers and distinctive iodine nuances, typical of Etna wines. On the palate it is fresh, savory, with a long and flavorful finish. Goes well with first and second courses of fish and shellfish
The Sicilian winery Monteleone introduces the Etna Bianco 'Anthemis', a pure Carricante that stands out for its vibrant mineral character, born from the volcanic soil on which the vines grow and the salty breezes coming from the Ionian Sea. This label, produced for the very first time with the 2018 vintage, comes from grapes grown within the municipality of Sant'Alfio, on the eastern side of Mount Etna. Compared to other areas of the volcano, wines from the eastern slope are characterized by their marine character and exceptional refinement, as well as their great longevity. It is a slope with a clear inclination towards white wines, where Carricante finds an ideal environment thanks to the cooler, rainier, and more ventilated climate.
'Anthemis' Monteleone Etna Bianco originates solely from Carricante grapes grown on soils formed by volcanic sands, particularly rich in mineral elements, located at an altitude between 700 and 900 meters above sea level. After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo soft pressing, with the resulting must left to settle for 48 hours. After this short period, alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, followed by aging for 12 months in French oak tonneaux on the fine lees.
In the glass, the Etna Bianco 'Anthemis' from the Monteleone winery displays a straw-yellow color with brilliant golden reflections. The complex and seductive olfactory profile is described by aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers embracing toasted hints and spice nuances, all complemented by characteristic marine mineral notes. The progression on the palate is vibrant thanks to the pronounced freshness and incisive salty-mineral stamp, with a lively and very persistent finish that leaves no one indifferent.
