POGGIO ALLE GAZZE TENUTA DELL'ORNELLAIA 2022 DESCRIPTION

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's Poggio alle Gazze is an elegant and pleasantly fresh white wine with Mediterranean aromatics. This label represents the desire to express the exceptional qualities of the estate in the production of white wines as well as in the reds, which have now become internationally renowned. It is made from mainly Sauvignon Blanc, Viogner and Vermentino grapes, to which a small percentage of Petit Manseng is sometimes added, depending on the vintage.

The grapes, harvested by hand in small crates, are taken to the cellar where the best bunches are selected and then undergo soft pressing. The must thus obtained undergoes cold static decantation for a duration of about 12 hours, after which alcoholic fermentation begins. This takes place in containers of different materials and sizes in order to obtain complexity and best manage the typical features of the different vintages from year to year. Once fermentation is complete, Poggio alle Gazze di Ornellaia does not undergo malolactic fermentation and passes directly to maturation on the fine lees, with frequent batonnage for a duration of about 6 months. It is at this point that blending is carried out from the various barrels and after a light clarification, bottling takes place. After bottling, the wine is matured for a further 12 months in the bottle before being put on the market.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's Poggio alle Gazze has a brilliant straw yellow colour, with hints of citrus, exotic fruit and white flowers on the nose. Later, again on the nose, notes of aromatic herbs, sage and sweet spices appear. On the palate, it is juicy, with a vibrant, crystalline fruitiness that leaves the mouth clean and fresh. This label, with its sumptuous structure and fruity notes mature, is a white of absolute character and great personality. Yet another challenge won by Tenuta dell'Ornellaia.
