Poggio Mandorlo is located in Seggiano, in the territory of Alta Maremma that rises to the slopes of Mount Amiata, within the Montecucco DOCG appellation. It is a young reality that was created in 2001 by four friends, Roberto, Felice, Giuseppe and Fabio, who decided to give life to their dream and try to enhance a land with great potential. The leadership of the project was entrusted to the expertise and experience of Roberto Cipresso, one of the most famous Italian oenologists in the world, thanks also to his many international consultancies. Today the direction of the oenological part is entrusted to Filippo Paoletti, a great connoisseur of Tuscany and one of the best interpreters of Sangiovese, who has been working for many years with many estates in the nearby Montalcino area.

The estate is located in a particularly suitable area of Tuscany, between Val d'Orcia, Montalcino, Sant'Antimo and Monte Amiata. The property covers a total of 38 hectares, 12 of which are planted with vines dedicated mainly to the red grape varieties Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and one hectare devoted to the cultivation of olives, in particular the highly prized native Olivastra Seggianese cultivar, among the absolute best in our peninsula. The vineyards are cultivated at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, within a natural setting that is still wild and rich in large wooded areas. The climate is cool and continental, with considerable temperature ranges and constant ventilation, all conditions that favor perfect bunch health and slow ripening of the grapes, with intense and elegant aromatic profiles.

The soils are rather complex and heterogeneous in nature, with a presence of marls and calcareous-clay schists in the lower areas and with soils composed of marl, quartz and tuff rising towards higher altitudes. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines were created with French clones from Saint-Émilion, while the Sangiovese comes directly from the Montalcino area. The winery was designed to fit harmoniously into the environmental context with minimal impact on the landscape. It is structured on three levels, follows the natural contours of the hillside and was built with local stones salvaged during the arrangement of the vineyards. The wines are characterized by finesse, elegance and are always marked by a remarkable freshness, typical of the terroir.
