Biondi Santi
The great symbol of Montalcino: a history of wine that comes from the distant past
The wines of Biondi Santi
The Biondi Santi winery, firmly guided for decades by Franco Biondi Santi, has become a symbol of Montalcino, and today, under the guidance of his son Jacopo, it is the undisputed point of reference for all Brunello enthusiasts. A centuries-old history, made up of passion, competence and love for the territory, which began in the mid-19th century thanks to the work and passion of Clemente Santi, a scholar and great landowner: in fact, the Tenuta Il Greppo was his.
The Biondi Santi wines received their first important awards at the 1867 Universal Exhibition in Paris, imposing themselves on the international wine scene for their multifaceted elegance. It was, however, the now historic 1888 vintage that produced what we know today as Brunello di Montalcino. Many years have passed since then and the winery, still run by the Biondi Santi family, has enjoyed increasing success, becoming a great name in the world of Brunello di Montalcino.
The heart of the Biondi Santi winery coincides with the historic Il Greppo Estate: a total of 43 hectares, 26 of which are populated by Sangiovese vineyards, where there are very old plantings dating back as far as 1930: the Greppo vineyard is in fact used for the splendid Riserva. We are at an altitude between 350 and 570 metres, in ideal conditions for the production of Brunello. Long maturation in barrels and extraordinary freshness of taste are the cornerstones of the tradition of the family that is the symbol of Brunello. Here, in fact, are created those great wines that have written (and continue to write) the wonderful wine history of Montalcino and the world.

"We are aware that, just as Franco praised the work of his father Tancredi, grandfather Ferruccio and great-great-grandfather Clemente when describing his vineyards, so too his son Jacopo is determined to continue the work of his ancestors with precision and rigour, to leave his mark on this superb slice of Tuscan and Italian enological history".
