The Moonlight Race is a New Zealand Pinot Noir from the Burn Cottage winery named after the water channel that runs through the property. A classic expression of the Central Otago area, this wine is produced with attention and traditional care, through an alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts and a short passage in oak barrels. Elegant and vibrant with a silky texture on the palate, it has intense earthy notes of dark fruits and spices.

The Moonlight Race from Burn Cottage is a balanced and elegant Pinot Noir produced in Central Otago, New Zealand. It is a blend of grapes from two distinct vineyards: the Sauvage Vineyard, named after the owning family and where there are as many as 5 different clones of Pinot Noir, and the Burn Cottage Vineyard, with a northern and northeast exposure. The careful parceling of the plots follows the established Burgundy model, while the name of the label comes from the homonymous water channel that flows through the estate, also chosen because the winery cultivates biodynamically following the lunar phases.

Burn Cottage Moonlight Race comes from only Pinot Noir grapes grown in two different “cru: 54% from the Sauvage Vineyard and the remaining 46% from the Burn Cottage Vineyard, in order to find the right balance between the different characteristics of the two vineyards. The production method is that of biodynamic agriculture, the alcoholic fermentation of 20 days is entirely carried out by indigenous yeasts and the aging lasts a few months in French oak barrels. Finally, the wine is bottled without undergoing filtration.

The color of the Pinot Noir Moonlight Race from Burn Cottage is a beautiful intense red with garnet hues. The bouquet is broad with crunchy aromas of red cherry, plum, and flowers that combine with more austere notes of black tea, spices, and earth. Refined and vibrant the tasting, characterized by a silky texture that lingers long along with succulent tannins. A typical varietal and territorial expression of New Zealand Pinot Noir, a worthy pairing with roasted meats or properly spiced braises.
