The 'San Lorenzo' by Melini is a Chianti Superiore with a shiny ruby red color that recalls the aromas of berry jams and violets. Fresh, round and persistent, it undergoes a brief aging in wooden barrels before reaching the tables of those who desire a full-bodied and decisive wine, to be enjoyed with tagliatelle with ragù or with a platter of cured meats and semi-aged cheeses.

The Chianti Superiore ‘San Lorenzo’ from the extensive Tuscan production reality of Melini is configured as a ‘tasty and enveloping Chianti interpretation. This bottle is born in the homonymous estate of San Lorenzo, located on the hills of Val d’Elsa, at the historic border between Chianti and Chianti Classico, in a beautiful green setting made of vineyards and cypress trees. In the estate, one of the 5 owned by Melini, is the winery, built in the 1970s on four underground levels, designed to favor a gravity-driven production process, thus avoiding excessive stress on the grapes and wine.

The ‘San Lorenzo’ Melini Chianti Superiore is produced from a solid base of Sangiovese Grosso combined with other complementary red grapes. The rows are planted at an altitude of 330 meters above sea level on soils rich in marine fossils formed by yellow-ochre sands of Pliocene origin, locally called “tufo senese”. In the winery, the bunches are first subjected to a pre-fermentation macerationa few days, followed by red winemaking with alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and subsequent malolactic fermentation. Once the fermentation processes are completed, the wine is racked into wooden barrels for maturation of a few months before the final bottling.

The Chianti Superiore Melini ‘San Lorenzo’ is a bright ruby red color. Notes of plum, raspberry, wild violet, and berry jam describe the aromatic profile, associated with delicate spicy hints and notes of toasted almond. Round, enveloping, and medium-bodied tasting, with pleasant freshness and the decisive yet well-integrated tannin that anticipates the savory and slightly almondy finish of good persistence.
