The Barolo Riserva "Ginestra" by Cascina Chicco is a great red wine from a prestigious mention of the municipality of Monforte, an area rich in limestone of ancient vocation. After 7 years, the wine comes to the market, rich in scents such as jammy red fruits, hints of evolution such as undergrowth and tobacco. On the palate, the balance between the softness of the sip and the roughness of the tannins, which are very present but well integrated, is immediately noticeable. The warm and long-lasting sip is so fluid that it lends itself to numerous combinations

The Barolo ‘Ginestra’ Riserva represents the most prestigious and celebrated label of the Piedmontese winery Cascina Chicco. The Geographical Mention of Ginestra, from which the grapes destined for this Barolo come, is located on the eastern slope of Monforte d’Alba, a municipality of which it represents one of the most important crus. Cascina Chicco purchased a few hectares of vineyard in this MGA in 2006, starting its Barolo production. Due to the exceptional vocation of this cru, the ‘Ginestra’ is always produced by Cascina Chicco as a Riserva, released on the market a full 7 years after the harvest.

Cascina Chicco Barolo Riserva ‘Ginestra’ is a pure expression of Nebbiolo from vines located in the Ginestra parcel, within the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, characterized by predominantly clay and limestone soils and a southwest and west exposure. Following the harvest, carried out entirely by hand with low yields of grapes and careful selection of the bunches, alcoholic fermentation is carried outin stainless steel tanks for 15 days, during which periodic pump-overs are performed. The maceration on the skins lasts a total of 40-45 days and the mass is subsequently transferred to large Slavonian oak barrels of 20, 25, and 50 hectoliters for a long aging of about 42 months, followed by an additional prolonged resting period between steel and bottle before the final release on the market.

In the glass, Cascina Chicco’s Barolo Riserva ‘Ginestra’ displays a bright ruby red cloak with a garnet edge. The olfactory panorama is defined by deep suggestions of berries, bramble flowers, underbrush, tobacco, licorice, graphite, and various spices. On the palate, it is powerful and elegant at the same time, with impressive freshness and ripe tannins that merge into a finish of very long and incisive persistence.
