Tarlant’s Coteaux Champenoise Rouge ‘Grand Picou’ is an excellent still Pinot Noir, produced in limited quantities by a master winemaker from Champagne. Made from vines inherited from his maternal grandparents, it is truly a wine that tells the family story of the Tarlants, winemakers whose roots date back to 1780. On the nose, it opens with lively fruit such as redcurrants and cherries, along with floral notes, evolving into complex smoky and toasty hints. On the palate, it offers surprising generosity; great juiciness and structure are highlighted with each sip, with excellent length

The Coteaux Champenois Rouge “Grand Picou” by Tarlant represents a prestigious expression of Pinot Noir from Champagne in the form of a still red wine, capable of impressing from the very first moment with its elegant fruity notes and finely spiced nuances. Produced in extremely limited quantities, this label highlights the region’s aptitude for still wines, which have only recently come into the spotlight. These wines generally echo their Burgundian counterparts, with a fresher, crunchier fruit profile due to the unique latitude of the Champagne area.

The “Grand Picou” Tarlant Coteaux Champenois Rouge is a 100% Pinot Noir, with grapes sourced from a single 0.25-hectare vineyard located in the lieu-dit of Grand Picou, near the village of Saint-Agnan in the Vallée de la Marne Ouest. The vines grow on limestone-rich soils and are cultivated according to organic farming principles. After the harvest, carried out entirely by hand, the grapes are destemmed and undergo spontaneous alcoholic fermentation in oak barrels, accompanied by around 14 days of skin contact. Once fermentation is complete, the wine is aged on fine lees for two long years in Burgundian oak barrels, a process that enhances its complexity and finesse. The final bottling takes place without any filtration.

In the glass, the Coteaux Champenois Rouge “Grand Picou” by Tarlant displays a bright ruby red color. The refined aromatic profile reveals crisp notes of red fruits such as cherry and currant, followed by smoky hints and nuances of undergrowth and vanilla. On the palate, it is elegant and juicy, highly expressive and marked by great freshness, with a soft tannic texture leading into a deep, lingering finish.
