Gewurztraminer 'Arenis' Kurtatsch 2024
Gewürztraminer 'Arenis' by the Kurtasch winery originates in the Bassa Atesina, a sunny area ideal for this grape variety, which is indeed aromatic, but also capable of producing wines with great body. The nose is fragrant and complex, with clear aromas of roses, lychee and exotic spices. The palate is full-bodied and fresh, with excellent balance and finesse. Its persistent minerality makes it ideal with spicy dishes, try it with Chinese cuisine.
The historic cooperative Kurtatsch presents Gewurztraminer 'Arenis', a white wine characterised by the rich, sweet aromas typical of the grape variety. The name of this label derives from the peculiar matrix of the soils on which the grapes grow, characterised by the presence of red sandstone, a rock at the basis of the peculiar reddish colour of the soil. Like all sandstone types, this sedimentary rock was formed over time by the accumulation and cementation of medium-sized sand granules, mainly quartz.
The GewurztraminerKurtatsch 'Arenis' is made solely from Gewurztraminer grapes cultivated using sustainable practices in the Bassa Atesina area. The vines are located at an altitude between 300 and 400 metres above sea level and lie on silty-sandy soil characterised by red sandstone, clay minerals and oxides, with an eastern exposure. After harvesting, the grapes undergo a cold pre-fermentation maceration directly in the press, aimed at enhancing the aromatic bouquet of the grapes. The subsequent alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by several months of ageing on the fine lees, also in stainless steel.
The Gewurztraminer 'Arenis' by Kurtatsch has a beautiful, consistent golden yellow colour. The aromatic profile is rich and complex, delineated by typical varietal aromas of rose, lychee, jasmine and sweet spices such as clove, combined with iodised mineral hints. On the palate, it is very fresh, almost nervous and sharp, yet balanced by theenveloping softness that accompanies the savoury and distinctly aromatic finish. The ideal accompaniment to Gewurztraminer is oriental cuisine, especially Chinese or Thai, which are as rich in aromas as this wine.
