The Gewurztraminer 'Brenntal' Reserve from Cantina Kurtatsch is an intense wine with great warmth. "Brenntal" literally means "burning valley" and refers to the very warm microclimate of the vineyards, which allows the Gewürztraminer to develop a strong personality. On the nose, there are intense floral hints that open the scene to typical hints of exotic fruit, along with notes of candied fruit and balsamic hints on the finish. With an imposing structure, the sip is warm and broad, yet without lacking freshness and balance.

The Gewurztraminer ‘Brenntal’ Reserve is a white wine with a generous aromatic vein, produced in South Tyrol by the cooperative Cantina Kurtatsch from this pink-skinned grape variety whose origin is still shrouded in uncertainty. Although its name, which literally means “spiced from Termeno”, would indeed suggest a direct descent from South Tyrol, genetic studies have instead revealed that Gewurztraminer belongs to the Savagnin-Traminer family, originating from the area corresponding to the current southwestern slope of Germany. What is certain is that this aromatic variety manages to provide in South Tyrol expressions of the highest qualitative level, softer and fuller-bodied compared to its Alsatian counterparts, another favored land for this variety.

The ‘Brenntal’ Reserve Cantina Kurtatsch Gewurztraminer comes from pure grapes of the eponymous aromatic variety grown within the subzone of Brenntal, in the municipality of Cortaccia, on sandy-clay red soils characterized by a high concentration of clay minerals and oxides. The vineyards are located in a warm and ventilated position, at an altitude between 220 and 300 meters above sea level, on steep slopes and with a southeast exposure. In the winery, the grapes are vinified in white with controlled temperature alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. This is followed by a maturation of about one year on the fine lees between cement tanks and still containers in steel, with the final market release occurring no sooner than an additional 6 months of aging in bottle.

The Gewurztraminer Reserve ‘Brenntal’ from Cantina Kurtatsch is of intense golden yellow color. The nose offers rich varietal aromas of macerated flowers such as peony and yellow rose and tropical fruits like lychee and mango, combined with hints of candied orange peel and lavender. The palate is soft, structured, and full-bodied, with enveloping warmth well supported by freshness and minerality in a deeply aromatic finish.
