The Greco di Tufo by Ciro Picariello represents a typically territorial expression of this ancient and noble grape variety from the South. A wine that conveys the characteristics of a land dedicated to vine cultivation since ancient times, combined with the artisanal passion of a winemaker who works within the framework of a centuries-old tradition. The estate is located in Summonte, in the province of Avellino, in a high hill area, between 500 and 600 meters, with soils characterized by sandy clay marl and sandstones. The cool, breezy, and continental climate, with strong temperature fluctuations, has proven perfect for cultivating high-quality grapes with an intense aromatic profile. Ciro Picariello produces wines of great personality, which have made him famous among enthusiasts who love bottles from winemakers attentive to the history and culture of the territory.
The Greco di Tufo is produced with the homonymous grapes coming from the vineyards in the Altavilla area, cultivated at over 500 meters above sea level with a southeast exposure. The vines have an average age of 15years and are grown on predominantly clay soils, with a density of 3000 plants per hectare. After the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed to obtain the free-run must for fermentation, which takes place in temperature-controlled steel containers. The wine ages in stainless steel containers for a period of 8 months, with frequent bâtonnage, and completes its aging process with 3 months in bottle in the company’s cellars.
The wine from Ciro Picariello is a characterful Greco di Tufo, notable for its intensity, structure, and aromatic depth. A white of great substance, suitable for aging as well. The color is a rather deep straw yellow. The olfactory profile is fine and intriguing, with aromas of orange blossom, citrus notes, yellow fruit, and hints of flint. The attack on the palate is of vibrant and pleasant freshness, which then unfolds into notes of ripe fruit and tropical hints, closing with clear mineral sensations.
