Mazzetti d’Altavilla is a name undeniably linked to a solid artisanal production reality, run within the family from generation to generation. The business still stands out today for its adherence to the tradition of Monferrato distillers, now led by Cesare, Nicoletta, and Giorgio: their collection of single-varietal grappa, all of Piedmontese origin, is enviable. These single-varietal pomace are the main ingredient of the family’s creations, from the most traditional to the most refined and aged: like those originally made by the founder Filippo, they represent all the aromas, biodiversity, and Piedmontese traditions, particularly of Monferrato.
“Inno al Brandy Italiano” pays homage to an additional nuance within the historic production of grappa by Mazzetti d’Altavilla. In this unparalleled box, 3 different wine distillates are collected, distilled using a discontinuous method in a bain-marie still and subsequently aged in wooden barrels for very long periods of time. The 20-year Brandy has rested in vats.120 hectoliters for 15 years, while the finishing during the last 5 years took place in French oak barriques from the forests of Allier and Limousin. The 27-year Brandy comes from aging in woods of various capacities: skillfully dosed, they have managed to give a brilliant amber color tending towards mahogany and a harmonious and extremely complex character, with a majestic and incredibly persistent taste impact. The 35-year Brandy, finally, is a jewel of patience and balance: distilled and sealed in oak barrels on June 12, 1984, it represents a bet by Franco Mazzetti, the fifth generation of the family. We are faced with a unique distillate, with extraordinary facets and woody nuances, soft smoothness, and great balance.
