The Rum Dictador 12 Years, produced by the Destilería Colombiana, is an aged Rum made with high-quality virgin sugar cane honey. It is the result of the ancient Colombian tradition, which, like all countries in the Caribbean area, began cultivating sugar cane after the arrival of the conquistadors, who introduced it throughout the region. The aging consists of filling ex-Bourbon barrels with Rum from the same vintage, without leaving room for oxidation, thus not needing to use blends of vintages.
The Dictador 12YO is produced in the area of Cartagena de Indias, where the Destilería Colombiana is located. Founded in the early 1900s, it still represents an excellence of the Caribbean area today. The rum is made from high-quality sugar cane, from which the purest virgin cane juice is extracted. At the end of the fermentation phase, distillation takes place using traditional copper stills and continuous column stills made of steel. It is then startedto aging in ex-Bourbon barrels. The warm climate of the northern coast of Colombia, overlooking the Caribbean Sea, offers the best conditions for perfect maturation of the distillates. Before bottling, the Rum is diluted with pure demineralized water.
The Dictador 12YO from the Destilería Colombiana is a Rum of great charm. A label that expresses the best characteristics of the great Colombian tradition in producing distillates of extraordinary aromatic complexity. Visually, it presents itself amber with bright reflections of antique gold and mahogany hues. The olfactory profile is wide and rich, with intense aromas of candied fruit, citrus zest, sweetness of tropical fruit, caramel, chestnut honey, toasted hints of freshly ground coffee, dried fruit, soft oriental spices, and noble woods. The entry on the palate is enveloping and warm, characterized by a harmonious and persistent sip, complex and deep, leading to a long and pleasantly fresh finish.
