SANCERRE BLANC 'ORIGINE' MATTHIAS ET EMILE ROBLIN 2023 DESCRIPTION

Domaine Roblin's Sancerre Blanc "Origine" is a fresh white wine with a sharp and mineral profile that expresses in a direct and essential way the best qualities of Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc's style. It is the perfect label to start understanding this terroir and to grasp the mineral typicity that the Kimméridgien soils give to the wine. Elegant and refined, it opens with aromas of citrus zest, delicate vegetal notes, and white fruit. The sip is characterized by a lively freshness and leads to a savoury and mineral finish. Simple and straightforward, it is a perfect Sancerre to be enjoyed as an aperitif, with seafood, or with a Crottin de Chavignol. It will pleasantly surprise you when paired with Asian cuisine.

The Sauvignon Blanc "Origine" is produced by the small family-owned Domaine Roblin, which has been managing a 19-hectare estate divided into about forty small parcels for four generations. The parcels are located on the steep slopes near the villages of Maimbray and Sury-en-Vaux, 6 kilometers northwest of Sancerre. The surface of the soils is calcareous-clayey, while the subsoil is pure limestone. They are the precious soils of Sancerre, typical of the Kimméridgien and Portlandian, which date back to the Upper Jurassic and give the wines a refined and elegant profile, with mineral and savoury hints. The vines are 25 years old on average and are trained with Guyot system on soils rich in Kimméridgien marine fossils and partially on calcareous-clayey soils of the Portlandian. After the harvest, the grapes are manually selected before undergoing a soft pressing. The must is fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 15/20°C for about three weeks. The wine matures on lees for about 5/6 months in stainless steel tanks before being bottled with a slight clarification and filtration.

The "Origine" white from Domaine Roblin is a highly enjoyable Sancerre to drink. It is fresh, direct, and a typical expression of the wines from this small area of the Loire. While retaining many varietal characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc, it already highlights the mineral nuances that constitute the distinctive feature and stylistic hallmark of Sancerre whites. The color is a light straw yellow with brilliant greenish shades. On the nose, it opens with the classic herbal notes of Sauvignon, accompanied by citrus and delicately fruity aromas. On the palate, it is straightforward and essential, with a vital freshness and a pleasantly savoury finish.
