The fox and the grape, revisiting Esopo's story

Mario Mergè began to cultivate vines and producing wine and olive oil in the '20s and has passed on his passion to his son Armando, who eventually replaced him at the helm of the company and then sell it in turn to his son Felice, the current owner and wine expert. So, in 1990, the Company Poggio le Volpi, who over the years has established itself as a primary producer of niche wines, primarily using traditional local varieties such as Malvasia bianca di Candia, Malvasia del Lazio and Trebbiano, without ignoring small amount of Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Greco. The company, which was founded in a S.R.L. has gradually expanded and now owns two estates: Poggio le Volpi in Lazio and Poggio le Volpi in Puglia. The vineyards of Lazio, about 30 acres of land, for the most part turned towards the south, are placed between the slopes of Monte Porzio Catone and the Roman countryside, a rich and generous land with flourishing agriculture and animals of various kinds, and among these there are many foxes; it is not difficult to imagine that the company from these foxes took its name. The cellars have been constantly modernized to take advantage of the most modern winemaking technologies, and today without fear of contradiction can be considered at the forefront. The Frascati Epos, marvelous assemblage of Malvasia Bianca di Candia, Trebbiano and Malvasia del Lazio, is a valuable messenger of the very high level of quality achieved by the wines labeled "Poggio le Volpi".
