Alzero' Quintarelli 2016
Rare winesThe "Alzero" by Quintarelli is a red wine resulting from the union of two worlds: the Bordeaux grape varieties meet the tradition of Valpolicella. They are presented by one of the great Italian producers, ‘Bepi’ Quintarelli. The grapes undergo an ‘Amarone treatment’ drying in the fruit drying rooms until December, the wine matures for years between barrels and bottle. The resulting red is iconic: a wide and rich bouquet, with notes of fruit in spirits, fragrant dried flowers, and sweet spices, with hints of truffle on the finish. On the palate, it is a concentration of power and finesse that, intertwining, creates a unique profile. A special wine, capable of surprising now as well as many years from now.
“Alzero”, produced by the winery of Giuseppe Quintarelli, is a classic Bordeaux blend that comes to life in the beautiful area of Valpolicella. In this area, long dedicated to the cultivation of red grape varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot have found the pedoclimatic conditions to mature grapes of excellent quality. The territorial touch is given by the use of the dried grape technique, typical of this area of Veneto, which allows for the concentration of sugars and aromas and gives the wine a softer and more seductive profile, with notes of ripe red fruit and mixed berry jam.
The red “Alzero” is made by one of the most famous names in the Italian wine scene. The Giuseppe Quintarelli estate is located in the heart of Valpolicella and manages about ten hectares of vineyards, situated in particularly valuable areas, very suitable for the cultivation of both indigenous red grape varieties and the most famous international grape varieties. The cuvée is composed of equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, integrated with a small percentage of Merlot. The vines are about 30 years old and are cultivated on calcareous soils rich in basalt. At the end of the harvest, the healthiest and ripest bunches are brought to the winery and dried, before fermenting spontaneously using only indigenous yeasts and skin maceration. Before bottling, the wine undergoes a long aging period, which includes a stay of 3 years in French oak barrels and 3 years in Slavonian oak barrels.
The wine “Alzero”, made by the Veronese winery of Giuseppe Quintarelli, is an excellent wine that, thanks to the talent of a great winemaker, manages to combine the charm of Bordeaux with the savoir-faire of Valpolicella. With a beautiful dark ruby color with slight garnet reflections, it offers an intense and complex aromatic palette, with notes of ripe cherry, maraschino cherry, blueberry jam, black currant, hints of tobacco, chocolate, sweet spices, and black pepper. Structured and rich, broad and dense, it has a velvety tannic texture and a smooth and harmonious sip, which extends towards a long and satisfying finish.
