The Barbera d'Asti Superiore "Alfiera" is the flagship wine of the Marchesi Alfieri estate, which comes from an estate cru and is produced in limited quantities only in great vintages. Marchesi Alfieri is a historic winery in Piemonte, located in San Martino Alfieri, among the hills that give way from Asti to Alba; the Alfieri family has been part of Piemonte's history, as the castle where the company is currently based has been in the hands of the Alfieri since 1616.
The Barbera d'Asti Superiore "Alfiera" from Marchesi Alfieri contains truly interesting characteristics: it comes from a company “sorì”, a historic vineyard of 4 hectares planted back in 1937 with 4,500 vines per hectare. An authentic pearl, the tale of a story made of quality, passion, and sweat. The Barbera “Alfiera” comes to life from these historic vines before being hand-harvested; in the cellar, it undergoes a fermentation in steel in contact with the skins, which lasts for 15-20 days, before being transferred to French oak barriques from Allier and Troncais where it ages for 18 months, developing its intense aromatic profile and all its softness.
In the glass, the Barbera d'Asti Superiore "Alfiera" surprises from the very color, a dark and impenetrable ruby red, before revealing all its aromas that range from ripe cherry to berries, from plum to vanilla, up to cocoa.
