BLANC 'L'ORANGEADE' OPI D'AQUI 2021 DESCRIPTION

"L'Orangeade" by the micro winery Opi d'Aqui is an interesting orange interpretation of grape varieties typical of the French Mediterranean coast. The name on the label is a lighthearted attempt to describe this creation, composed solely of grapes, terroir and non-interventionist philosophy.

"L'Orangeade" Orange Wine is made by Opi d'Aqui from the typical white grape varieties of the French Midi: Marsanne and Grenache Blanc, which make up 60 percent and 40 percent, respectively, of the cuvée. The grapes are grown under a certified organic system and following the principles of biodynamic agriculture on soils with a characteristic clay-limestone composition, located at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level. The Mediterranean is not far away and influences the dry climate of this extreme western part of the Languedoc with its refreshing breezes and, together with the Salagou lake, lying behind the village of Clermont-l'Hérault, provides an important moisture reserve. The clusters are harvested by hand when fully ripe, then destemmed once they reach the winery. Fermentation is spontaneous, using only indigenous yeasts, and the must remains in contact with the skins for 15 days. Aging takes place in used wooden barrels for a period of 6 months, without any further handling, and the sulfites present are normally those developed naturally during the fermentation phase.

"L'Orangeade" by Opi d'Aqui is a label that leaves no doubt as to what to expect in the glass: a bright-looking orange wine with light nuances. The impact on the nose is as territorial as ever: the Mediterranean scrub expresses itself with clear scents of rosemary and broom, accompanied by a pungent citrus of orange. In the background, there is no lack of notes that recall a ripe sweetness, such as yellow peach, which are found on the palate in the sensations of enveloping softness. The sip expresses warmth and structure, with a marked but well-integrated tannic presence balanced by a powerful freshness. The finish lengthens on characteristic brackish and saline notes. A bottle to spend on a wide variety of preparations: from white meats with creamy sauces to grilled mackerel.
