The Chianti Superiore 'Collezione Oro' by Piccini 2023 is an elegant and complex Tuscan red, an intense Sangiovese wine with marked freshness. On the nose, notes of ripe plum dance with refined spicy nuances. On the palate, it impresses with its softness and intense fruity profile, supported by silky tannins. An ideal companion for an outdoor barbecue, it also pairs well with excellent aged cheeses.

The Chianti Superiore ‘Collezione Oro’ represents a pleasant and balanced Chianti expression offered by the Piccini winery, one of the most important players in Chianti in terms of production volumes. The term “Superiore” that identifies this wine indicates that it is the result of a stricter regulation compared to that of generic Chianti, particularly concerning the yield of grapes per hectare, the minimum alcohol content, and the minimum aging period, all aimed at communicating a tendency towards higher quality.

For the production of the Chianti Superiore Piccini ‘Collezione Oro’, a blend of Sangiovese grapes (85%) and Merlot (15%) cultivated in the Chianti area is made. In the winery, the bunches are fermented in stainless steel tanks, containers in which alcoholic fermentation takes place accompanied by a variable period of skin maceration. Regarding the subsequent aging phase, which lasts for 8 months, concrete tanks are used, with the final release onto the market occurring only after a further brief resting period in bottle.

Upon visual examination, the ‘Collezione Oro’ Chianti Superiore from the Piccini brand reveals a bright ruby red appearance. The exuberant aromatic profile is outlined by pleasant fruity notes of plum and greengage that anticipate hints of vanilla, cinnamon, and licorice in the finish. The warmth and roundness on the palate are well supported by juicy freshness and the soft and well-integrated tannin, elements that accompany the balanced finish, with good fruity persistence. The same producer recommends pairing this Chianti Superiore with grilled meats, flavorful first courses, or various cheeses, either medium or long-aged.
