The Elixir di Liquirizia, made by Essenza Mediterranea, is a Calabrian liqueur with very intense aromas and a rich, seductive taste. It is produced in the area of Altomonte, in the province of Cosenza, with a plant that is very common in the wild flora. Licorice is a typical shrub of the eastern Mediterranean basin and Asia, always known for the aromas of its root. This ancient plant has met in Altomonte the culture of herbal elixirs, a heritage of monks who arrived from Greece and Sicily since the XI century. Thus, a tradition was born that continues to produce exceptional liqueurs.
The Elixir di Liquirizia liqueur is born within the walls of a Calabrian producer, who decided to give voice to the excellences of his land, through a range of labels made with a spirit and a handcrafted processing process. Essenza Mediterranea has managed to stand out in the panorama of traditional liqueurs, precisely thanks to these characteristics of strong identity and recognizability. The preparation begins with the selection of the raw material, made from the roots of the licorice plant. After the washing and cleaning phase, the wood is cut and processed, which in the final phase involves a slow and long infusion in alcohol, in order to concentrate all the scents and aromas. At this point, the liqueur rests for a short period and is bottled for sale.
The Licorice Elixir produced by Essenza Mediterranea is a black nectar of extraordinary expressive purity, which gives the intoxicating sensation of walking between the blue of the sea and the warm sun, on a path dotted with the presence of the wild shrubs of the Mediterranean scrub. It is a true sensory journey into the most authentic heart of Calabria. Visually, it presents a dark ebony color that is almost impenetrable. The bouquet is dominated by the intense and soft aroma of licorice, enriched by fresh balsamic nuances, hints of medicinal herbs, and helichrysum. The sip is dense and velvety, with a deep and enveloping licorice aroma. The finish is harmonious and very persistent.
