'Etman' Nuzzella 2023
The Etna Bianco 'Etman' from the Sicilian Nuzzella estate represents an authentic interpretation of the terroir capable of evoking the black, Mediterranean soil from which it springs through its energetic mineral tone. The Nuzzella winery was founded in 2015 by Nicola Autieri with the help of Sergio Arena and oenologist Vincenzo Angileri following the purchase of an old vineyard in a state of partial abandonment with olive trees attached in Piedemonte Etneo, on the north-eastern slope of Etna. Here, the soils are locally called 'Terremorte' because they consist of a layer of the fertile soil of alluvial origin covered over time by a succession of lava flows.
Nuzzella 'Etman' Etna Bianco is made from a solid base of Carricante combined with 10% of the other native Catarratto. The vineyard of origin, organically certified, has an average age of 15 years and is planted on lava and alluvial soils at an altitude of 550 metres above sea level. Harvesting is done by hand in the last ten days of September, and the grapes are then destemmed and crushed before spontaneous alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks with 3 days of maceration on the skins. The subsequent maturation phase also takes place in stainless steel, and after a few months, the wine is finally bottled.
The colour of Etna Bianco Nuzzella 'Etman' is straw yellow with golden highlights. The aromatic bouquet expresses refined aromas of yellow-fleshed fruit, white flowers, broom, Mediterranean herbs and lemon peel, enhanced by marine mineral nuances. The palate progression is fresh, drinkable and balanced, with remarkable smoothness and tension and pleasant, saline notes accompanying the long finish.
