Etna Bianco 'Monte Gorna' Cantine Nicosia 2019
Etna Bianco "Monte Gorna" contains all the majesty and elegance of the great Sicilian volcano. Born from a blend of Carricante and Cataratto grapes grown at high altitudes on volcanic sands, it shows a varied olfactory spectrum that unfolds on inviting notes of white-fleshed fruit and citrus, then aromas of white flowers, dried fruit and honey. On the palate it is delicious and elegant, it extends with a refined interweaving of freshness and minerality. Organic Wine
The Etna Bianco “Monte Gorna” is one of the most well-known labels from the famous Cantine Nicosia, which expresses the most typical and authentic characteristics of the volcanic terroir of Mongibello with great immediacy. The grapes from the indigenous white grape variety of the area, Carricante, combined with a generous percentage of Catarratto, faithfully interpret the soils of volcanic lava, deposited by millennia of eruptions. Basalt rocks, lapilli, and sands rich in minerals give the wine a savory and stony profile, making it unique in its kind.
The “Monte Gorna” is an Etna Bianco produced by Cantine Nicosia at the company estate of Tre Castagni, located at the foot of the southeast slope of the volcano. Carricante and Catarratto are cultivated at about 700 meters above sea level, on the sandy soils typical of volcanic lands and in cool, sunny climatic conditions, with strong temperature fluctuations between day and night. At the end of the manual harvest, the best bunches undergo a cold maceration for 24 hours, before the soft pressing and the vinification of the free-run must in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Before being bottled, the wine matures for several months in steel tanks and acacia tonneaux, which contribute to giving it a particularly harmonious and smooth profile.
The Etna Bianco “Monte Gorna” from Cantine Nicosia represents the perfect synthesis of the fortunate interaction between the historic grape varieties of Sicily, Carricante and Catarratto, and the volcanic soils. Indeed, it is precisely in this corner of Sicily that the two indigenous white grape varieties produce wines characterized by a great elegance and aromatic intensity. A glass with a beautiful light yellow color with golden reflections, which seduces the nose with aromas of citrus, white-fleshed fruit, floral nuances, and mineral hints. Pleasantly fruity and fresh on the palate, it offers a long and persistent sip. It is a white of great pleasure, ideal to pair with a seafood menu.
