Etna Rosso 'Cirneco' Terrazze dell'Etna 2019
The "Cirneco" from Terrazze dell'Etna is a full-bodied and intense Etna Rosso obtained from very old Nerello Mascalese vines, vinified with long macerations and aged in barrel for 18 months. With wide and intense aromas of red fruit and spices, on the palate it is warm, soft and balanced, with a long persistence.
The Etna Rosso "Cirneco" is an elegant, intense, and full-bodied red wine: the full and representative expression of the Etna territory and the flagship of the Terrazze dell'Etna winery, a young but renowned wine reality founded by the Palermitan Nino Bevilacqua with the oenological consultancy of Riccardo Cottarella.
The Etna Rosso "Cirneco" comes from Nerello Mascalese grapes from vines over 60 years old cultivated with the traditional Etna alberello system. The winemaking process involves long and controlled macerations, and the aging takes place in second and third passage French oak tonneaux for 18 months and in bottle for another 18 months.
This wine takes its name from a very ancient dog breed, of Egyptian or Phoenician origin, typical of Sicily: the Cirneco dell'Etna. Elegance, tenacity, and ancient origin are the characteristics that link it to the Etna Rosso of Terrazze dell'Etna: a wine with wide and intense aromas of small red fruits, sweet spices, with pleasant volcanic hints, and a warm and structured taste, soft and well balanced, persistent, and very elegant.
