Greco di Tufo 'Ponte dei Santi' Villa Raiano 2022
The Greco di Tufo "Ponte dei santi" is a full and enveloping white wine from Irpinia with a rich, elegant, and slightly evolved style, aged in steel for 12 months and for at least 14 in bottle. Hints of citrus, yellow fruit, and aromatic herbs compose the bouquet. On the palate, it is juicy, soft, and satisfying, with a long persistence.
The Greco di Tufo "Ponte dei Santi" is one of the most prestigious whites produced by the Irpinian winery Villa Raiano. This ancient native Campanian grape variety is capable of producing wines with notable structure and complexity, also endowed with extraordinary freshness and longevity. Its fruity, citrus, deep, and rich aromas captivate from the very first sip and possess a persistence that allows for important pairings with baked fish, fish in sauce, cod, or delicate white meats. It is a label dedicated to those who love and appreciate structured wines, capable of evolving over time, developing an aromatic palette with refined tertiary notes.
The "Ponte dei Santi" is a Greco di Tufo from one of the reference wineries in the Irpinian area. Villa Raiano was established in 1996 and currently manages 27 hectares, in an environmental context rich in biodiversity, thanks to large areas of forests. The Greco vineyards at the base of this label are located in the Ponte dei Santi fraction of the municipality of Altavilla Irpina, at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level. The cool and breezy climate, of a continental character, and the soils composed of silt, sand, and interspersed with clay veins, are very suitable for native white grape varieties, which have dwelled in this land for millennia and whose origins may date back to the time of the first Greek colonization of Campania. The grapes are gently pressed, and the must ferments in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The aging takes place in steel tanks on fine lees for one year and is completed with an additional year in the bottle.
The Greco di Tufo "Ponte dei Santi" by Villa Raiano is an excellent version of this great white from our south. Now fully deserving of its place in the elite of reference bottles of the denomination, it is an absolutely essential tasting experience for those who want to know the authentic face of the grape variety. Of a yellow color with bright golden reflections, it expresses a bouquet characterized by scents of wildflowers, broom, chamomile, aromas of fleshy fruit, hints of dried fruit and flint. Of good structure and aromatic density, it unfolds on the palate with a long and complex sip that leads to a persistent finish and lively freshness.
