The Lugana Riserva Molceo is a white wine with interesting qualities of structure, complexity, and longevity. It originates in the area south of Lake Garda, between Brescia and Verona, where the mild climate and compact clay soils rich in limestone have proven perfect for cultivating white grape varieties. The principal grape variety of the area is Trebbiano di Lugana or Turbiana, genetically almost identical to Trebbiano di Soave and Verdicchio. In this particular terroir, it is capable of producing wines with intense aromatic concentration, which have shown to possess excellent aging potential, with elegant evolutions leaning towards minerality.
The Molceo is produced solely from Trebbiano di Lugana grapes, sourced from vineyards cultivated in the San Benedetto area. The suitable soils and management with low yields allow for a good concentration of aromas, further enhanced by a slightly late harvest. After manual harvesting, the grapes undergo a gentle pressing. The free-run must is then started for fermentation in steel at controlled temperature and the subsequent partial malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for a period of 16 months on the lees, mostly in steel and partially in tonneau and barrique. A long aging process that gives the Lugana a rich body and remarkable complexity.
The Riserva Molceo immediately captivates the eye with its intense and bright yellow color. The bouquet is broad and articulated, with aromas of ripe fruit, candied citrus peel, and hints of flint. The sip is seductive, with soft, juicy fruit, crossed by good freshness and a clear mineral vein. It is a white wine to be enjoyed with important seafood dishes, white meats, or a platter of aged cheeses.
