Marsannay Rouge ' La Chapitre' Jean Fournier 2022
Artisanal
Organic and biodynamicThe Bourgogne Rouge 'Chapitre' by Jean Fournier is a Pinot Noir in purity from the municipality of Marsannay-la-Côte in Burgundy. A handcrafted wine with a sophisticated character and warm, enveloping tones, which undergoes a long aging in barriques from which it gains depth, structure, and an intriguing spicy vein.
The Domaine Jean Fournier introduces the Marsannay Rouge ‘Le Chapitre’, an artisanal label endowed with a sublime and irresistible charm that originates in the northernmost part of the Côte de Nuits, home to the great Pinot Noir of Burgundy. The story behind this bottle is curious as initially the plot ‘Le Chapitre’ did not fall within the AOC of Marsannay and therefore Laurent Fournier, son of Jean and current owner of the Domaine, marketed the wine under the generic regional denomination Bourgogne Rouge. In 2019, thanks to the revision of the plots of the AOC Marsannay, the plot ‘Le Chapitre’ was reclassified among the crus of the denomination.
‘Le Chapitre’ Marsannay Rouge Domaine Jean Fournier is produced with only Pinot Noir grapes from vines planted in 1950 and 2010 on soils mainly composed of oolite and light marls, characterized by a full eastern exposure. In the field, the principles of organic farming are respected, certified since 2008, and the harvest is carried out entirely by hand. The winemaking is based on spontaneous alcoholic fermentation, partly with whole clusters, while the subsequent aging phase of one year takes place in French oak barrels of 228 and 600 liters, new for 25%. At this point, the two masses are blended and left to rest in tonneau for an additional 6 months until the final bottling.
The Marsannay Rouge ‘Le Chapitre’ from Domaine Jean Fournier has an intense cherry red color. Elegant and complex, the aromatic bouquet is composed of aromas of ripe red fruits like cherry, accompanied by floral and spicy nuances, with hints of coffee framing it. The tasting shows an exceptional balance between the enveloping warmth, the lively freshness, the unexpected mineral vein, and the silky tannin.
