The "Mater Matuta" by Casale del Giglio is a red predominantly made with Syrah grapes, to which a small percentage of Petit Verdot is added. It impresses the nose with a lively and complex olfactory spectrum, from sweet spices to Mediterranean scrub, with tobacco and coffee. On the palate, it is seductive and structured, with a well-integrated tannic texture and a long finish with fruity echoes.

The “Mater Matuta” from the Casale del Giglio winery is a soft and full-bodied red wine, produced in the locality of Le Ferriere, in the Lazio province of Latina. This label is obtained from a blend of grapes that sees Syrah, predominantly, joining Petit Verdot in a combination that respectively gives complexity and great structure. These international varieties have perfectly adapted to the context of the Agro Pontino, whose microclimate is positively influenced by the breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The winery is one of the most renowned realities that have invested heavily in viticulture in the Lazio territory, now owning as much as 164 hectares of vineyards managed with great care and attention to continuous experimentation.

The red wine “Mater Matuta,” named after the goddess of dawn, an ancient Italic deity protecting new life and fertility, is produced with carefully selected grapes harvested at their optimal ripeness, sometimes with slight drying for the Syrah. The bunches after the destemming and crushing in the winery are subjected to separate alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel containers for a period of about 18-20 days, using the submerged cap maceration technique for the Syrah and through the use of pumpovers that amplify the extraction from the skins for the Petit Verdot. Subsequently, the wine is racked and undergoes aging in new French oak barriques for 22-24 months, before blending the two varieties and concluding with bottling. This is followed by an additional 10 months of bottle aging before the “Mater Matuta” is ready for commercialization.

The “Mater Matuta” from Casale del Giglio presents itself with a deep and dense ruby red color, with a slight purple hue. On the nose, intense aromas of ripe fruit appear, including marasca, blackberry, and plum, floral notes of violet and dried flowers, spicy hints of nutmeg, cinnamon, coffee, balsamic notes, and a hint of Mediterranean herbs, including coriander. On the palate, it is full, enveloping, and rich, characterized by a well-integrated tannic structure, a nice freshness, and a long and opulent finish. This red from the Casale del Giglio winery is a unique specimen in its own right, truly special and one of a kind, capable of seducing.
