Perricone 'Ribeca' Firriato 2019

This Perricone “Ribeca” is the result of the decades-long commitment of the Firriato winery in the grand recovery of the indigenous grape variety Perricone, a traditional variety of Sicilian viticulture that has now almost completely disappeared. The “Ribeca”, as illustrated on the label, is an ancient musical instrument, the ancestor of the violin, and no name could be more fitting for this bottle, in which the Perricone symbolizes the harmony of an ancient music almost entirely forgotten, which still today knows how to create full and delicate melodies. A rare wine, to be paired with flavorful dishes such as tasty cannelloni seasoned with pecorino.

The “Ribeca” Perricone from Firriato is born from the grapes of this indigenous Sicilian variety, cultivated within the vineyards of the Tenuta Pianoro Cuddìa, characterized by a mainly calcareous and clayey subsoil and exposed to the south and southwest, at about 200 meters above sea level. The bunches, carefully harvested during the harvest phase, are destemmed, and the berries proceed to the pressing phase. The must, after fermentation, is allowed to rest for 12 months in oak barriques.French, at the end of which the Firriato winery begins preparations for bottling.

This Perricone "Ribeca" Firriato reveals itself to the eye with an intense color reminiscent of ruby. The nose is interesting, starting from a range of fruity notes and then closing with spicy hints and touches of licorice and juniper. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with a full and round sip, enhanced by fine and elegant tannins; it finishes with a pleasantly fresh aftertaste.
