Pinot Bianco 'Sirmian' Nals Margreid 2020

Nals Margreid Pinot Blanc 'Sirmian' is a South Tyrolean expression of exquisite elegance and harmony that owes its name to the place where the grapes come from, located just above the municipality of Nals. Like many other fine South Tyrolean wineries, Nals Margreid is also a cooperative winery, formed by no less than 138 winegrowing families who, with great passion and a sustainable approach, cultivate traditional South Tyrolean varieties, including native and international varieties. Here, grapes such as Pinot Bianco benefit from the cool climate and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night, conditions that favour an exceptional accumulation of aromatic precursors in the grapes.
The Pinot Bianco 'Sirmian' from Nals Margreid is made solely from Pinot Bianco grapes grown at an altitude of 500 to 700 metres with south-eastern exposure. The soil, which originated millions of years ago from glaciers in the Western Alps, consists of limestone, gneiss, mica, slate and marble. Once harvested by hand, the grapes first undergo a short pre-fermentation maceration and then a gentle pressing, with the resulting must fermenting for about 3 weeks in 12 and 30 hectolitre wooden barrels. Once the fermentation process is complete, the wine matures for 8 months in large casks on the fine lees.
To the eye, the 'Sirmian' Pinot Bianco of Nals Margreid expresses a brilliant straw-yellow hue. The intense and complex nose mosaic is composed of ripe fruit, pink grapefruit, kiwi, pineapple, apple and alpine flowers, supported by hints of aromatic herbs and mineral puffs. The palate is rich in character and elegance, savoury and deep, with excellent taste balance and lively fresh-tasting verve. Persistent fruity and floral finish.
