Rosso di Montalcino Caparzo 2023
The Rosso di Montalcino by Caparzo is a Tuscan wine with good body and great territoriality. In appearance, it presents an intense ruby red and reveals aromas of red fruits, raspberries, pomegranate, and violets. The sip is rich, warm, and broad, elegant and pleasantly savory.
The Rosso di Montalcino by Caparzo is a historic wine, produced since 1970, when there were just over a dozen wineries in Montalcino and its wines had not yet conquered the large international markets. It is a younger and fruitier version compared to the famous Brunello, which is preferred when one wishes to drink a good Sangiovese, with an immediate taste that is not too demanding in terms of food pairings. It is made with a selection of grapes from different vineyards on the estate, partly cultivated in the northern area and partly in the southern zone, in order to propose a harmonious and balanced wine every year.
The Rosso di Montalcino wine is one of the most popular labels from the Caparzo winery, always a true ambassador of the territory. For the production of the Rosso, grapes from the vineyards cultivated in the Caparzo locality, in the northern area of the Montalcino hill, at an altitude of 220 meters above sea level, on soils predominantly composed of clays and sands; from the vineyards located in the Cassero locality, which are in the southern area at 270 meters altitude with soils composed of sands, clays, and schists, and from some parcels located in San Pietro-Caselle, in the eastern area at 250 meters, on clay and sand lands. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 28-30°C, with a maceration on the skins lasting about a week. Before bottling, the wine matures for a year in 80 hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels.
The Caparzo Rosso di Montalcino is a label that highlights the best varietal characteristics of the Sangiovese grosso from Montalcino. In appearance, it presents a bright ruby red color. Fragrant and rich, it expresses a bouquet characterized by aromas of violet, cherry, raspberry, small berries and hints of aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, with a fine tannic texture, ripe and crunchy fruit. The finish is of good persistence, with a closure of balanced freshness. It is a perfect red to enjoy paired with baked pasta, pasta with meat or game sauces, grilled red meats.
