The Sangiovese di Massa Vecchia is a red wine from the hinterland of the Maremma which is striking in its depth, width and thickness. The nose is a riot of rural and rustic elements, ranging from ripe red fruit to undergrowth, through dried flowers, roots and wild herbs. The taste shows fabric and muscles, lining the palate with pleasant enveloping, showing an energizing freshness.

The Sangiovese from Massa Vecchia is one of the most wonderful and exciting interpretations of Sangiovese from Maremma. A pure and rare concentrate of the Tuscan coast with all its mediterranean, wild, and marine surroundings; almost definable as a “creature” for its emotional spontaneity and for the vitality that flows from the liquid. Rustic and explosive, but only at first impact, because if observed calmly, one notices a disarming depth and a cyclone of nuances that bring the mind back to the wild land of Maremma. This Sangiovese is one of the most brilliant gems of the Massa Vecchia collection, a reality of a handful of hectares led today by Francesca and Stefano, which has become a reference point in the world of artisanal wine for the production of territorial elixirs of boundless longevity. It's hard not to be struck and amazed by the vital energy of these bottles.

The red from Massa Vecchia is born from a maternal care and a sensitive approach to the land. Simplicity, genuineness, and ancient peasant recipes are the only ingredients that Francesca and Stefano use to bring their liquid paintings to life, emotional summaries of grape, territory, and vintage. The harvest and selection of Sangiovese grapes is done manually. In the cellar, fermentation occurs spontaneously through the action of the indigenous yeasts naturally present on the skins. After the tumultuous fermentation, it requires a rest of at least 30 months in oak barrels in the company of its natural residues, resulting from the absence of filtration and clarification. Bottling occurs without the addition of sulfites to preserve all its spontaneity.

The Sangiovese Massa Vecchia kicks in the glass with its impenetrable and dense ruby red cloak. Majestic and noble, it still shows its wild nature and reminds us that it is a child of the land. A pulsating and layered nose where countryside notes, pastoral elements, hints of Mediterranean scrub, spontaneous herbs, wild fruit, blackberries, sea breezes, and forest roots trot around. Refinement and elegance gallop in the same direction at the reins of a rustic freshness and a tannin that marks the sip.Power, depth, and class, it can only be a thoroughbred!
