The Piedmontese wine reality Cascina Bruciata is indissolubly linked to the territory of Barbaresco, particularly to the area of Rio Sordo, a cru located on the southern slope of the municipality of Barbaresco. The history of the winery began in the distant 1880 when Giovanni Balbo purchased the farmhouse just destroyed by a fire, hence the name Cascina Bruciata (Burned Farmhouse). It was during the 1950s that the estate took a predominantly wine-oriented direction, while for its definitive qualitative consecration, it would be necessary to wait until the beginning of the new millennium when Carlo Balbo, descendant of the founder Giovanni, marketed the first bottles. In 2016, the winery was acquired by the Abbona family, already owners of the renowned Langhe reality Marchesi di Barolo, who managed to maintain the status of a small family winery without altering its identity.

The rows owned by the Cascina Bruciata estate, covering a total area of just over 6 hectares, are exclusively reserved for traditional varieties of the Langhe, namely Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, and, above all, Nebbiolo, the undisputed king of the Barbaresco area. The vineyards, managed following sustainable practices, culminated in organic certification obtained in 2015, reach up to 300 meters in altitude and rest on soils mainly consisting of calcareous and clayey marls. Both stainless steel tanks and wooden vats are used as wine containers for fermentations, while the long aging of Barbaresco takes place in oak barrels.

Barbaresco undoubtedly represents the most representative wine of Cascina Bruciata, declined in different labels that express both the character of the originating crus and the sublime elegance and charm common to the entire appellation. Among the crus, the historical one of the winery is 'Rio Sordo,' an Additional Geographic Mention of great prestige that both the Balbo family and then the Abbona family have always managed to valorize properly, producing a wine of substance but at the same time very refined.
