Airén 'Pampaneo Ecologico' Bruno Ruiz - Esencia Rural 2023

The “Pampaneo Ecologico” from the Esencia Rural winery of winemaker Bruno Ruiz is a surprising and multifaceted white wine that is not easy to approach, the result of century-old bush-trained vines of Airén grapes and a very traditional production method, based on the principles of territorial spontaneity. The result is a unique interpretation, unconventional and never the same, capable of surprising with every sip and communicating without reservation the powerful rustic and rural essence of the Spanish region of La Mancha.

The Airén grapes from which the “Pampaneo Ecologico” is made are cultivated by Julian Ruiz, Bruno's son, in the very old family-owned bush-trained vineyards, rooted in sandy soils, according to principles that adhere to biodynamic philosophy, without resorting to herbicides, fungicides, chemical fertilizers, or irrigation. The production process involves spontaneous fermentation, without the addition of yeasts, in steel tanks, with skin maceration for about 2 months. The wine obtained is bottled young, with minimal addition of sulfites, in order to fully preserve all the characteristics of the starting grapes and the territory. The winemaker's radical choice not to intervene at all with filtration, clarification, or stabilization leads to the bottling of a shifting liquid in continuous and rapid evolution, amber in color, with possible presence of natural residues.

The tasting of the “Pampaneo Ecologico” Airén from Esencia Rural is a unique experience, capable of displacing both the novice and the most expert and savvy taster. A brief oxygenation is necessary after uncorking the bottle to allow the aromatic profile to emerge clearly. Decanting and aeration are recommended depending on the case. Due to contact with oxygen and the very low presence of sulfites, the color will tend to take on oxidative tones, coinciding with the clear emergence of distinct aromatic and herbal notes, combined with savory briny nuances.The olfactory profile can also include very intense aromas of ripe fruit, citrus jam, and mentholated spices. On the palate, it reveals a bright and vibrant freshness, rich in savory notes and Mediterranean spices.
