The Barbera d'Alba “Gallina” from the La Spinetta winery is a beautiful version of this interesting grape variety from the Piedmontese popular tradition, always cultivated in the region. It is a noble Barbera, born in the heart of the Langhe, in the production area of the prestigious Barbaresco. The great quality of the grapes contributes to creating an intense red, which is vinified with a long aging in wood, as is customary for the great wines of the Langhe. The lively exuberance of the Barbera tempers its youthful excesses, to express a harmonious, rich, and complex face. The fruity notes blend with evolutionary aromas of great elegance.
The Barbera d'Alba “Gallina” wine is born in one of the most beautiful and famous territories of Piemonte. The La Spinetta winery manages an estate of about one hundred hectares in the most renowned denominations of the region. Among the vineyards, there is room for historic grape varieties, particularly Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Moscato. The Barbera grapes come from the vineyards of the cru Gallina di Neive, in the Barbaresco area and are cultivated at an altitude of about 270 meters above sea level with a south-facing exposure. The calcareous soil and the cool, breezy climate provide high-quality grapes. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures with skin maceration. The wine matures for about 18 months in French oak barriques, for 6 months in stainless steel tanks, and completes aging with 8 months in the bottle before being released on the market.
The “Gallina” La Spinetta is an interpretation in the name of maturity and complexity, which highlights the aptitude of this ancient Piedmontese grape variety to produce aging wines. Tradition and culture have driven La Spinetta to create a special label that allows for the discovery of a new and surprising personality of the Barbera. In the glass, it presents an intense ruby red color and reveals an aromatic profile characterized by notes of blackberries, blueberries, ripe cherries, soft spices, toasted hints, woodiness, and balsamic nuances. Rich and satisfying on the palate, it stands out for an elegant and complex sip, that extends towards a harmonious finish, returning to pleasantly spicy sensations. An excellent alternative to the more renowned reds of the Langhe.
